Our Past Shapes Our Future

Florence Pat Haseltine

I had bought into the American idea that things should be equitable.

Haseltine was the Director of the Center for Population Research for the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development, NIH. She led the way for advances in contraception research and other health areas, founding the Society for the Advancement of Women’s Health Research (SWHR) and the Journal of Women’s Health. A true pioneer, she holds numerous patents in health technology.

The Alma Dea Morani Renaissance Woman in Medicine Oral History Project

Oral histories enable women to share their stories in their own words and better shape the legacy they leave behind.

The Alma Dea Morani Renaissance Woman in Medicine Oral History Project highlights the recipients of the Foundation’s Alma Dea Morani, MD Renaissance Woman Award. It’s a unique collection of medical pioneers housed in the collections of the Harvard Countway Library of Medicine and highlighted in a Countway online exhibit.

Florence P. Haseltine is one of these pioneers.

Support These Stories

So many women remain disconnected from their history as women in medicine because the collections aren't digitized or were never created in the first place.

Women's stories matter, and we need your help to ensure these stories are accessibly preserved and connected to what's happening today so we create a stronger future
